Bill Cosby discusses drugs, pursuing and paying women in 10-year-old court deposition

NEW YORK (WABC) -- It was a deposition Bill Cosby hoped would remain secret. In the nearly 1,000-page document, surfacing from a court case 10 years ago, Cosby speaks under oath and away from the spotlight, talking candidly about pursuing women, giving them drugs and keeping the information from his wife.

At the time he was still revered, but these new revelations are sure to tarnish that once shiny image even more.

ABC News has obtained the deposition that details Bill Cosby's sexual encounters with at least 5 different women. In it, the star says he sometimes refrained from actual intercourse because he did not want women to fall in love with him. The once-beloved TV dad explained to lawyers why he had quaaludes, saying the drug was what "young people were using to party? I wanted to have them just in case."

When asked whether one woman was in a position to give consent after he gave her quaaludes in 1976, he reportedly said, "I don't know." The comedian also provided $5000 in financial assistance to that woman through his talent agency, all the while hiding it from his wife, according to The Times.

The deposition was for a 2005 court case in which a young woman named Andrea Constand sued Cosby, claiming he had drugged her before allegedly raping her. The entertainer refuted Constand's allegations saying the act was consensual, describing the aftermath of the encounter: "She does not look angry." Cosby was never charged with sexual assault. He settled the Constand case out of court.

ABC News reached out to both sides for comment but as part of the agreement, both parties agreed not to discuss the case.
