This week's episode of Modern Family will include a storyline involving transgender child actor Jackson Millarker.

ABC has confirmed that 8-year-old Jackson will appear in Wednesday's episode, titled "A Stereotypical Day." Jackson will play Tom, a friend of Cam and Mitchell's daughter Lily who comes over to the house for a play-date.

According to the episode synopsis, "Cam and Mitchell have always felt they were the most open, non-judgmental and supportive parents. However, when they overhear Lily insulting her new friend, they have to take a quick look in the mirror before they teach her a lesson about acceptance."

Jackson is the first openly transgender child actor who has appeared on television, according to People.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell Pritchett, shared his pride about the episode on Facebook.
